Week 9 Reading and Writing

Looking Back

From doing blog posts for the last 8 weeks and looking back on them, I've learned quite a fair amount on the development of games and the process it goes through. From the mechanics of a game to the flow of play. The mechanics in a game are the most important and how they shape a game like in my previous post where I give my own thoughts on the MDA of a game and the fun players get out of a game. MDA being quite a mouthful standing for the Mechanics, Dynamics and Aesthetics of a game is something I really never concidered that deeply amout and how important it is for game designers to impliment factors into games. The mechanics(in easy enough terms) are rules that make the character move. The Dynamics are the behaviours within a game so from a doing action. the Aesthetics are responses that come from the Dynamics like emotion from the character.

Being a fan of the office and liking this quote, this pic is being re-used

This really flows into another blog post about fun, and why is it important for game developers to take the players game flow into concideration as you dont want your audience to be bored or be too stressed playing a game, as the meme above explains it all.

Looking Forward

What I would look forward to for any further research into games and the development would be the phychology and the effects of long term or short term gaming and the different game genres has on younger kids(very exact), but those types of articles are intersting to read up on and get a better understanding and insight.
