 Game Idea

After some thought and looking into the type of game I'd like to create, it would be a platformer game linked to my first brainstorm. As mentioned before I do love the run, walk, jump and climb simple games like the old Crash Bandicoot and Mario games. So why not create one myself, eventually. But with those types of games the development would be basic to the max, even as close to the unity lab we did for the plane to fly, something similar to the "flappy Bird" app would be an acomplishment.

But for any game to run there needs to be a few major steps to take, these are the mechanics! The mechanics are kind of like baking a cake, you need foundations (flour, egg and sugar), then to mix it all together, and bake. You cant sadly bake the creation of a game but the steps are similar enough.

Game and Player mechanics would be the two common ones, for example, the player, what rules must you follow to progress? For the game, levels are locked until the next level is reached by the player. As well as player and game mechanics, there are also other ones:

  • Time Mechanics
For this, I feel it can be an important matter in any game, for example early levels would be easy and short, this helps the players get used to the main controls of their character. As you progress further, each level will get harder and take longer to complete.
  • Rotation Mechanics
The roation is important as the controls would need to be simple enough like, can you roatate up or down? run in a full 360? This depends on the main camera angle. If it is 3rd person perspective the camera is following behind and can move in any direction.
  • Turning Mechanics
Turning is also another aspect to look at, like can the player move around obstacles left or right? Again this depends on camera angles. If it is set at a 2nd person perspective then it would be harder to see if you are turning as this angle is set from the side like the bonus levels in Crash Bandicoot, the player is looking on at the character.

All of these need to be taken into consideration when creating the game. For more information on game mechanics check out The Knowledge Guru

  4. Cool Game Idea Aaron I think its great that you are looking for an achievable idea rather then trying to go for something that would be too difficult and non achievable considering we are only new to unity and everything involved but this seems like a good idea overall. Best of luck creating it I look forward to seeing the final product.
