Game Brainstorm

For a game Idea I've had even when playing other games thinking how cool a certain game would be done this way or that way based on certain styles I like include,

  • Platformer (games that have a 2D feeling to them completing levels and bosses)
  • Action Adventure
  • Horror/Survival
  • Simulation/Sports

Platformer

I've always been a huge fan of the old classics like Crash Bandicoot and Spyro even Mario too (oldie at heart). I love how the games are not just for kids but all ages, the storylines are fantastic to follow and theres always challenges even after completing the games.

So a game that has an obvious storyline that a main character would be following in order to rescue and save another character or their world from an enemy must face challenges and levels. Starting off with easy levels to get used to the walking and jumping controls and the surroundings and then building up to longer levels and harder obstacles to face. Like the crash game with bonus levels, something similar would be interesting and fun to add in, something that takes away from the main story level. When levels are complete extra challenges can be available and gather trophies and then boss levels.

Characters to create for this kind of game could be created from another animal inspiration like crash which is a Bandicoot and Spyro which is a dragon, there is no wrong in a bizzare game.
The importance of the game would be camera angles. 1st person perspective is from the players eyes but cant see a lot of the game surroundings. A better perspective is the 3rd person view, where the camera follows behind the player, the crash games are all this view apart from some bonus levels.
With more ideas unfolding for this idea the more creative it can get, there is no complete wrong with creating a character and a landscape for games like this.

Action Adventure

Another genre of games that I really enjoy is action/adventure, so games like Assassins Creed (the older ones up to 2012), Uncharted series and Tomb Raider. To create a game thats a semi open world where a character has more freedom to roam with objectives and quests to do without a timelimit. With Assassins Creed the game is based on the main character. in modern time using an Animus to go back to the 12th Century as an assassin.

To create a game similar to ones like Tomb Raider and Uncharted as they are similar adventure games where the character is to seek out a long lost treasure and face challenges along the way. Crafting weapons, upgrading equipment and improving player qualities is just few of the things wanted in an action adventure game. Having a historical background to the game is interesting like in Assassins Creed and the location of those games are interesting to follow from. Even having an adventure based game set in Ireland during Famine times and evolving from that is interesting to go from. But with beginner unity skills basic landscapes and a lot of greenery could pass as Ireland.

Horror/Survival

One of my favourite games and a guilty pleasure genre to play horror games(toughening up for the real world) with titles like Dead Space, 5 Nights and Freddies and The Last of Us series, to create a similar survival horror game even bringing one to VR is next level. A very good simple concept game like Dead by Daylight which is a multiplayer survival game where one player is the monster and 3-4 others have to open the gates to escape. This type of survival game would be great to create as it is great for suspense where you can hear the monster but cant see them. Based around seasons like Halloween or Christmas and even easter with a killer bunny while you scavange for its eggs even would be good, as the weirder the game, when pulled off can be pretty good to play.

Keeping the game simple too like ResEvil 7 where you stumble upon a house and have to find tools to escape and come across unwanted visitors along your way is a good concept too. Instead of a house it could be a hotel or even an abandoned town. Theres so many concepts you can choose on this genre but would need a solid storyline to follow for the players to understand and stay interested.

Simulator/sport

I've occasionally liked a good car racing game now and again as its easy enough to play and theres no strict tasks to follow. Games like Forza and Need for Speed are good but wouldnt it be cooler to have one based on the streets of Ireland? Can you imagine a dirt track race around the city centre? I can! and thats why I think a racing game based on the streets of Dublin would be pretty cool. Even through a VR set while using a wheel and peddals would be pretty amazing experience.

Or why not use a VR for an experience around your city? Walk the streets of Dublin or Galway or Cork even, like the Google Earth VR this would be Google Streets and would be very popular for tourism especially and older people who cant get out and would love to experience the city life again, it could even be stripped back to certain time eras, like the 1980's or the 70's? How cool?
Theres so many ideas for simulator through VR or a car racing game. You can turn it into a soap box racing game or skateboarding or even roller blading games.

Based on those genres and Ideas for each one, there is endless ideas that can come from creating the next game but taking note that it would have to be basic and simple due to only having beginner experience with game creation on Unity.

Why not give a game a go from one I made a few years back. Its a 2D style game called Pig Castle. Taken from SuperMario style with a castle theme and having to collect mushroom(as they had no truffles) and then reaching a key/chest at the end of a level to progress forward.(It's pretty addictive to play and beat the levels!)
