Games GDD

 Game Design Document

From watching the video on how to create a game design document by BenderWaffles. I found it very interesting and full of information as he shows his own game document on a creation of a game he was making. The headings you follow would include;
  • Summary- A brief description of the game journey the player has to adventure on.
  • gameplay- Style of gameplay if its rpg or simulation style, giving an example of similarity.
  • controls- What controls will be used to control the player? Mouse and keyboard or just Keyboard?
  • mechanics- Describing the main mechanics in a game. Role play game or simulator.
  • level design- What areas the player goes through, so Home town, mountain area, river area or castle area.
  • game flow- Numeric or points detailing briefly on the game flow, so player starts at hometown, ventures to first area meets a player, gets to castle, saves player and ends.
  • graphics- any player characters, objects or if sounds are used
Below is a screenshot of a template document and the layout used for this specific game, but would obvioulsy be different depending on the type of game each develops.

  1. Heya Aaron,

    Not going to lie, when I first started reading about GDDs I was thinking about paragraphs on paragraphs of work but when you actually read about them, you can shape them into any form you want as long as you include the points you listed ^ Will be coming back to this post no doubt to help me to write my document!!!

  2. Hey Aaron

    This is a really well put together game design document. I like how it's just short and simple but explains everything really well. I wish you the best of luck with your game and I look forward to playing it.
